Alexandrine Parrots For Sale
We have been breeding birds in the Ottawa area since 1987 and have been breeding Alexandrines since 1992. We have 3 handfed babies for sale.
They were hatched in our home on Feb 24, Feb 26 and March 1 of 2010. Still being handfed, they will be ready to go their new homes in May or June. We are asking $500 for a baby (non-negotiable).
The correct name for the Alexandrine is Alexandrine Parakeet. Measuring nearly 2 feet from head to tail, the "Alex" is one of the largest members of the parakeet family. Hand fed Alexs make great pets.
Not only are they beautiful birds, they are both affectionate with their families, and comfortable spending time on their own. The father of these chicks will still come out of the cage and ride around on our shoulders and enjoys handling.
When purchasing an Alex, there are things you must consider. First, due to the size of the bird, a fairly large cage is required. We will require some proof that you have an cage of adequate size before selling you the bird. Cages can be expensive, so you may want to investigate cage prices before deciding to go ahead with this purchase. Keep in mind that large cages consume floor space in your home.
Secondly, young Alexs like to chew. You must be prepared to provide a steady flow of toys and constant replacement of perches. This chewing is a natural behaviour and you can not eliminate it.
Thirdly, Alexs are a long lived bird. With a typical lifespan beyond 30 years, your family may experience many life changes over the course of 30 years. Like most parrots, Alexs bond strongly with their families and we are looking to place our babies with families that are committed to the owning and caring for the duration of their lives.
